Today my son came home from school with The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone and illustrated by Mike Smollin. This was the third time this year he checked it out from the library so he clearly enjoys this book (just like I did when I was little)! It is a great book that encourages a lot of interaction while reading it.
If you have never read this book before, it is a MUST! Grover is so scared to see the monster at the end of the book that he asks you not to turn the pages. He keeps everyone from turning the pages by tying knots and building bricks, but none of his plans work. At the end Grover is the only monster and tells us we had nothing to be afraid of. My kids love that part of the story. They think it is so silly that Grover acts like we were afraid when it was really just him.
Today when my son got home from school and we had played super heroes for a while we decided to read the book. My three year old had never read the book, but he said, "Like my game." As we were reading and came to the page where Grover ties knots, my son started touching the page and saying "tap". I wish that I was joking, but I am not. He thought that the book was the iPad. Although, he had never read the book, he had watched it on the iPad!
We have the Monster app on our iPad and one kid will sometimes listen to it before bed when we are reading to the other. My husband got this app for them so I had never seen it, but after today I decided to look at it. It is SO much fun. There are hotspots on some pages, such as the knot and brick pages. You can untie the knots and break down the brick wall while you are listening and watching. The best part is you get to hear Grover's adorable voice.
I am certainly a book lover, and enjoy turning the pages of a book when I am reading to the kids, but I will admit that the app is almost more fun for this book!

This is one of our favorites, too! I hadn't heard about the app, but we are going to start loaning Ipads at my library. I'll have to check it out!
