Bird Week Day Six
Our bird and leaf sun catcher.
Our little "Nature" bunnies were a big hit, and my son had a great time with them, so this week we decided to get outside and find some supplies for one of our bird projects just like we did with the bunnies!
This time my son needed to find some sticks and leaves. Pretty easy!
He looked for all different kids of leaves. "Mommy these are too spiky!"
My son's collection of leaves and sticks.
For the rest of the project we needed wax paper, scissors, some birds, and an iron.
When we got inside, my son placed the leaves all over the wax paper.
I covered the leaves in another layer of wax paper, then a towel, and ironed over it so the paper would stick. I did this with my mom all of the time when I was little!
We hung it on the window and my son added some birds that I had cut out of a magazine.
We used our sticks as a frame. I hot glued them around the picture. We hung it up over our sink. It is so pretty!
Our art project was inspired by the book Birds by Kevin Henkes. My three year old has really enjoyed reading this book this week. In Birds, you find out that birds can come in all different colors like red, blue, and green. Birds are different sizes too. You read about what it looks like if all of the birds fly out of a tree at once, and my son's favorite part is when there are 7 little birds perched on a wire, and they sit and sit until finally, on the next page, they are gone!
This is the second book we have included on here by Kevin Henkes. We are quickly becoming big fans of his books, and will be searching for some more of his books soon!

What a wonderful creation! I love the way the sun lights it up!
