Earth Week Day Three
| We Love Trees! |
The Earth Book is a fabulous book about what children can do to take care of the earth, AND why they should do it. I adore this book because the things that the author suggests kids do are fairly simple. He tells us to bring our own grocery bags because we love the trees. He tells us to turn off the lights because we love the polar bears. The pictures are very bright and cute. My son loves the polka dotted animals in some of the pictures. We have read this many times in the last couple of days and it is at just the right level for teaching my son about taking care of the earth.
Last night, when we read, my son kept wanting to look at the page with a boy holding the hands of a tree. I was laughing with my husband about how we could take a picture of my son and have him hold the trees' hands. After laughing about it, I decided my son would probably laugh too, so we tried it.
First, I took my son outside and took one picture of him with his arms out so it looks like he is holding hands with someone.
The next picture we took was my son hiding behind a tree with his arms out. Of course, when my three year old saw this picture he said, "That is so silly Mommy!"
When we got in I printed out two of the tree pictures and one of my son. I cut up some green tissue paper and gathered the rest of the materials.
My son got to work gluing the pictures together.
Next, he added glue and tissue paper leaves to the top of the picture.
It was his idea to add eyes and a mouth just like in the book.
We were cracking up at our finished project. It looks like my son has some great friends in this picture! I cut out some words from a magazine so the picture says, "I love the trees."
Kind of silly, but so much fun!

ReplyDeleteThank you! Have fun with it! I thought about using different trees, but we were at him and all of our other trees are pine trees. It would be fun to go to the arboretum and get some great pictures for this. Maybe next year!
