Colorful "Nature" Bunnies

Today, we read Quiet Bunny's Many Colors by Lisa McCue.

And made these adorable nature bunnies to go with the book!

The pictures in Quiet Bunny's Many Colors are so adorable and colorful!  In this book, Quiet Bunny loves all of the spring colors.  He sees yellow animals and wishes he was yellow.  He ends up turning himself yellow by rolling in some honey and covering himself with dandelions.  When that washes off he wishes that his fur was green.  He ends up turning himself green by covering himself in lily pads.  This continues with the colors red and blue.  After Quiet Bunny realizes that he can't change his brown and white fur, the wise owl tells him, "We are all different colors, and we are all beautiful!"  My son just loves this story and I enjoy reading it too!
Here is the inspiration for our craft!
This book offers so much for little ones and older kids too.  The vocabulary is fantastic for discussing spring!  There are all sorts of birds, like blue jays and cardinals.  There are daffodils, dandelions, tulips, and lily pads.  You can even discuss all of the animals in the forest, like the turtles, frogs, a fox, and a squirrel.  Check this book out the next time you go to the library and I promise you will not be disappointed!

This is how we made our little nature bunnies!

To get ready for our craft I traced the bunny on the cover of the book and cut it out.  I also grabbed some yellow pom poms to make the bunny yellow.  I thought my son might want to make more colors, so I cut out a few bunnies.

We went on a scavenger hunt outside looking for something yellow to turn our bunny yellow.  My son found a few dandelions.

We went inside and he made Quiet Bunny yellow with the pom poms and dandelions.

Once he was done he went to grab the book so he could remember what other colors Quiet Bunny wanted to be.  Naturally, he wanted to make a green bunny.  We ran outside and searched for something green.  We grabbed a few handfuls of grass and some leaves.

This time he spread the glue around with a paint brush and sprinkled on green grass.

My son wanted to make a blue bunny too.  In the story, Quiet Bunny turns blue from rolling in a blueberry patch.  All of the blueberries in our house were eaten for breakfast, but I let him squish a blackberry on the bunny.  He looked more purple than blue, but purple is a spring color!

The last bunny we wanted to make was red.  We didn't find anything red outside, but we found these pretty pink flowers.

My son ran inside and made his pink bunny...instead of red.

Our little nature bunnies turned out so cute!

We have been busy with bunny activities this week.  Check out some of our other posts!
