Elephant Week
A few weeks ago I found this great book, If Elephants Wore Pants, at the library. I knew, immediately, that the boys would love it. Reading it inspired me to have a whole week devoted to elephants. We have plenty of favorite elephant books in our home too, so we have been reading LOTS of elephant books!
If Elephants Wore Pants by Henriette Barkow and illustrated by Richard Johnson is an entertaining book about a little boy who is having trouble sleeping and decides to count elephants instead of sheep. The little boy becomes friends with an elephant and spends his time in Elephant Land doing many fun things. With each activity, the elephant wears a different pair of pants. The pants are all unique and have different colors and textures. He wears fluffy pink pants, pants covered in stars, and sparkling red pants. The story is told in fun rhyme and is a fun, quick read for my three year old.
I couldn't help, but want to dress up an elephant in pants after reading this book, so I made our own paper elephant and cut out all kinds of pants. We had a great time decorating them to look like the pants in the book.
I traced the elephant and cut out a bunch of pants that matched the colors of the book.
My son glued yarn on to the brown "velvet" pants.
He was very serious about making the pants with stars.
Here he is decorating some "rainbow" circus pants.
The glitter was once again the favorite! Here he is making sparkly red pants.
Our completed wardrobe for the elephant was fantastic!
My son dressed the elephant as we read the book. He had fun telling me which pants the elephant was supposed to wear next.
We couldn't forget the aviator glasses!
My three year old had to carry the elephant with sparkly red pants upstairs to his room. The pants were not only my son's favorite to make, but also the pants he would choose to wear if he could be an elephant for a day!
Before his nap, we dressed my son's favorite elephant in some of his pants! He wouldn't let me get a very good picture, but we got a good laugh!
