We are continuing with our love of lemonade and lemonade books this week. Of course, we can't get through all of these books about lemonade without making some of our own! Making lemonade is on my summer leap list so it is definitely a must!
Maisy Makes Lemonade by Lucy Cousins is the perfect book to go with a pitcher of fresh lemonade. I really enjoy reading Maisy books with my three year old! The pictures are so bright and colorful and the stories are simple and sweet.
In Maisy Makes Lemonade Maisy's friend, Eddie the elephant, drinks all of her lemonade, so Maisy decides to make some more. The book follows 4 simple steps for making lemonade and is the perfect book to help teach about sharing. My six year old is able to read this to my three year old too!
This is the second summer that we are making fresh lemonade. It seems to have become a tradition. This year we used this recipe from Simply Recipes and it was much better than the kind we made last year! It is made with simple syrup so the sugar doesn't sink to the bottom and everyone that tried it loved it.
First, we gathered the ingredients for our lemonade.
We measured sugar and discussed the word dissolve while we made the simple syrup.
We squeezed lemons and used the juicer to get our lemon juice. The boys tasted the sugar and the lemon juice and talked about the words sour and sweet.
We added simple syrup, lemon juice, and water and stirred it all up. While we measured, sliced, and mixed we had our favorite song, Happy Lemons, by Ralph's World playing in the background!
Finally, we had to taste it. It was delicious!
We also made popsicles in an ice cube tray and they tasted great when we got back from the pool today. Ice cube popsicles bring back a lot of memories!
This afternoon, I printed out pictures from our lemonade making and had my boys put them in the correct order according to how we made the lemonade.
My six year old wrote on each picture and made his own recipe book for making lemonade.
Be sure to check out our other lemonade posts and become a fan on Facebook to follow more summer book fun!
