Summer

Happy Summer!  It seems funny that today is the first day of summer, yet my son has been out of school for almost 4 weeks!  We have been very busy checking things off of our Summer Leap List, even though it hasn't officially been summer!

I have wanted to share all of the fun things we have been doing (outside of the blog activities), and I thought today would be a great time to do that!

Here is our Summer Leap List Check List.  More to come throughout the summer!

Go to a Baseball Game
and
 Eat Cotton Candy

 Watch Fireworks

Watch Fireworks

See Big Waves

Run on the Beach

Make Lemonade

Go to the Pool

I am so excited to be having so much fun this summer.  One of the other things I have done that was NOT on my leap list is discovered the non-fiction reader shelf at the library.  I am taking full advantage of it!  I love that I am finding books that my six year old can read on his own AND enjoy!

Summer by Ann Herriges is a Blastoff! Reader Level 3 and is part of the seasons series.  This book touches on all of the wonderful things about summer while teaching young readers a little bit more about the season that they already know.  The photographs in this book are so colorful! While reading, my son learned about some bugs, the length of the days in summer, and summer weather.

My son and I each took turns reading a page tonight, and while some words were difficult for him, we worked together and got some reading practice in even after a busy day!
