Storm is Coming!

Today we watched a pretty crazy storm blow through our town.  The boys were amazed at the wind and enjoyed watching our table and kid pool blow away.  Thankfully, we were all safe and we didn't have any damage to our house. The neighborhood lost a lot of trees though and that always makes me sad!

Before bed tonight, we took a book that we used to love to read off of the shelf.  Storm is Coming by Heather Tekavec and illustrated by Margaret Spengler is a book that makes my six year old laugh, and I love books that can do that!  It also seemed appropriate for our stormy afternoon.

Storm is Coming is about a farm full of animals who overhear that "Storm is coming."  They all run to the barn to hide from Storm.  Scared, they all wait for Storm to come knocking on the barn door, but they are pleasantly surprised that the dark, wind, rain, and lightning keep Storm away.  When the farmer comes to open the door they are happy and feel safe again knowing that "Storm never came."  My six year old loves that the animals don't realize that Storm is not a person, it is the weather.

Just like the animals in the story, we were happy to have some nice sunny weather to enjoy later on in the afternoon.  We spent the rest of our afternoon at Grandma's pool swimming and racing our cardboard boats!
