Back to School Book Basket

I can't believe that my six year old is starting first grade two weeks from today!  As much as I don't want to think about my son going to school ALL day this year, I know that it is time  to start preparing him.  I am also starting to prepare my three year old who will be going to preschool just two days a week.  I am trying to get them excited about school (even if part of me isn't so excited), so I took a basket that has been sitting at the bottom of our stairs and searched each and every bookshelf for books about school.

I placed all of the books in the basket and then decorated it with this ADORABLE Back to School Countdown from Crafty Confessions!  I know the kids will love to countdown the days until school and will most likely argue over who gets to switch the number on the countdown everyday!

Here are some of the books I included, but not ALL!

D.W.'s Guide to Preschool by Marc Brown

First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg

Mule School by Julian Rawlinson

Brand-new Pencils, Brand-new Books by Diane de Groat

Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney

Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook by Michael Garland

The New Bear at School by Carrie Weston

The Puppy Who Went to School by Gail Herman

Marley Goes to School by John Grogan

Tessa the Teacher by Jo Litchfield and Felicity Brooks

Maisy Goes to Preschool by Lucy Cousins

Kindergarten Rocks! by Katie Davis

Pirates Go to School by Corinne Demas

Ready, Freddy! The One Hundredth Day of School! by Abby Klein

Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes

Lily's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes

I will be featuring some of these titles in upcoming posts the next few weeks!

I left our book basket on the kitchen table during breakfast this morning.  It helped us get into an exciting conversation about the first days of school!

My six year old asked if there were 14 books in the basket.  When I told him there were more than 14 he told me we should read two a day until school starts!  His mind works just like mine sometimes!

I don't have enough books for two a day so we will be going to the library sometime this week.  They both have been very interested in looking up books on the computer and then finding them on the shelves at the library.  Hopefully, we will find a bunch of great school books, or enough to have 28 books in our basket!

And, I will leave you with one of my favorite books when I was little!  My School by Peter Spier is a school shaped book that introduces the reader to two different classrooms.  One page has pictures and names for all of the students in the classroom.  I have recently read this with my boys and they love the pictures!  I love sharing old favorites with my kids!

    1. Thank you Cerys. If you can find D.W.'s Guide to Preschool that has been one of our favorites since my oldest started preschool. We have read it many times throughout the last three years, but he finally felt like it was time to pass it on to his little brother.
Thanks for the invite. I did submit this, but not quite sure if I did it right.
