Calling All Cars!

I love when my kids play with LEGOs!  It keeps them seated for a while, uses their creativity, and is one of the few things that is kind of quiet!  So, when my six year old asked to take the LEGOs out yesterday, I was thrilled!

We started our building with a jail.  My son wanted a place to lock up the criminals that we have!

Today the boys built a mud trap together so if the criminals tried to escape they would get stuck in the mud!

While we were creating I remembered these LEGO City Adventures books that we have and ran upstairs to grab one.  I had bought these through a Scholastic book order and had a few to choose from, but decided on Calling All Cars! by Sonia Sander.  My six year old, three year old, and I read this LEGO book that includes many sight words, exciting pictures, and a lot of ideas for us to continue our play!  It was a great time to read the book because it gave us a little more inspiration!  Since the criminals in the book steal money from the bank, my six year old found some pieces that could act as money and even found Santa's list from a Christmas set and decided it should be a list of clues for the detectives.

After reading and getting a little more inspiration, I decided to try to build a helicopter like the one in the book!

My three year old liked working on and playing with a car.

My six year old added a magnifying glass, catapult, and some watch towers so the criminals could not escape!

Here was our completed play set that has offered over two hours of play so far!

I loved listening to the story that my boys were creating as they built and played!  I never played with LEGOs as a kid so I am learning a lot from my boys!

  1. We've read that book too - from the library! Legos are great for building and acting out stories. Thanks for linking to Lego Fun Friday!
