The Night Before First Grade

Last night was a big night for my six year old and I wanted to make it special.  After all, it was The Night Before First Grade!  My husband and I had spent the night before making a little gift to help our first grader sleep a little better and we were pretty excited to give it to him!

All we needed was a pillowcase and some fabric markers.

We made a pillowcase for my son's "Night Before First Grade" just like in our Back to School Book Package, but instead of having my son decorate it, a few family members signed notes and good luck wishes on his pillow.

We decorated the edge of the pillowcase too. Even my three year old helped us draw on it!  The finished project was really very sweet.

My son loved it and smiled the whole time we read from it!  I hope it helped him have sweet dreams!

The other side of the pillowcase is blank and it might be fun to add some memories or even more notes as the year goes on!

Along with his new pillowcase we read his new book, The Night Before First Grade by Natasha Wing.    I found out that they also read this in school today!

The Night Before First Grade is a great book for new first graders!  This book follows a little girl as she gets her supplies packed up, picks out her clothes, and packs a lunch for school.  When she gets to school she finds out that her friend will not be in her class, but meets a new friend.  It was the perfect story for my six year old who didn't know very many people on his class list this year!

  1. It will be fun to see what memories he decides to place of the back. This is a great idea.

  2. I love this idea and wish I would have seen it sooner. We used our Magic Dust under our pillow which also was lots of fun. http://theeducatorsspinonit.blogspot.com/2011/08/first-day-of-school-magic-dust.html
